I’m Maria Carter, Owner and Designer of Velvet & Bough.

For me, decorating has always been about more than making something beautiful. It’s about creating a feeling—the warmth you experience when you walk into a beautifully decorated room, the excitement of seeing a Christmas tree come to life, and the memories made when family and friends gather together during the holidays.

I’ve always had a love for creating, decorating, and paying attention to the little details that make a space feel special. That passion eventually became Velvet & Bough, where I’m able to combine creativity, thoughtful design, and my love of Christmas to create holiday spaces that feel elegant, welcoming, and uniquely yours.

Outside of Velvet & Bough, I’m a wife, mother, grandmother, and someone who deeply values family, faith, creativity, and the traditions that bring people together.

Christmas has always represented those things to me.

Perhaps that’s why I love this work so much. I’m not simply decorating trees and homes—I’m helping create the setting where Christmas memories will be made.

And that is something I consider a privilege.
